Hansen Hotel

Today at work this cute old man complete with cowboy hat and suspenders came up to me. He was very sweet and is the first old man I have met that reminded me of my wonderful Grandpa H. I'm not sure if it was the cowboy hat, the way he held his hands, his complexion, his gentle eyes, or that he said I had "beautiful smile and a twinkle in my eye" but I instantly adored him. Speaking of 'twinkling eyes', this past week Adam and I celebrated 3 years of marriage! My sweet momsie gave us a copied page from her journal that she had written the day we got married. When we were sealed, the sealer made reference to my dear grandparents, and though they were not with us in person, I know that they were with us that day, especially Grandpa H. He was a temple worker and sealer in the Mesa, AZ Temple for 17 years and I am positive he was with us that day. I sure miss him and am so so sad that Adam never had the privilege of meeting any of my dear grandparents. Come to think of it, Adam hasn't met much of my extended family. That is sad and needs to be remedied. In other news, Adam is still looking for a job and I hope he'll be able to find something that will work with his school schedule. I am hopeful... perhaps some good will come out of this after all. Also, the past 2 weeks we have been the Hansen Hotel :) For a small home we have surely been packed to the brim! Adam's mom and hubbie Glenn came all the way from Georgia to spend time with us. They are quite the busy pair and have been going going going since they arrived! It has been nice to spend some time with them. Also, Adam's sister Charity, her hubbie, and 5 kids came to stay with us for 4 days, as well as Adam's lil' bro Daniel who is going to Russia on his mission came up to spend time with Adam's mom's side of the family as well as do some shopping for the mission. Adam is constantly giving him tips and advice on how to make it through the winters in Russia as well as what to and not to pack. So, I believe I can sum up our life in one simple word: Busy. But that's normal right? Life is so fast pace. It will be nice to escape 'responsibility' and chillax with the Vreeken fam in Yellowstone this coming weekend, although even there we are usually go go go. I hope for some low key nights chattin' with the fam, making classic mallows (even though no one likes them its a tradish!) and playing some games. Is it sad I'm looking forward to a nap on the boat? It seriously is one of my favorite things! I inevitably will get bored of fishing and will hand Adam my pole 'to catch a big one' and then I will lie on the back of the boat where the sun has warmed the leather seats. With a fresh breeze in my face I will drift to sleep as I listen to the sound of the water against the hull of the boat as it rocks. Sigh :-) Summer Perfection.

The 'unlucky' ones...

Who knew so much could change in 24 hours?

The past weekend was spent like most weekends. We spent Friday with friends, Saturday we ran errands, repaired the Blaze (surprised? you shouldn't be...), and we ended the eve celebrating Kari’s day of birth and Cold Stone ice cream cake! Delish! Sunday we spent with the fam playing games, eating delish food etc... Normal right? Right.

Monday morning we both go to our workies. Normal right? Right.
Monday at 11:00 a.m. I get a call from Ad. He's been fired.
I'm in shock. Then, I freak out. Normal right? WRONG.

The reason is what really TICKS me off. Apparently he had excessive absences. I can see how that is a problem IF they are unexcused. HOWEVER, in Ad's case... ALL days off were approved by his manager. She could have told him he had to come in if she had a problem with it. ALSO, less that one month ago Adam had his performance review with this manager who did nothing but praise his performance as a Team Leader. NO mention was made of his absences. WHAT A FRIGGEN joke!

Anywho. I just don't get it. Adam's absences were sooo long ago. If they had a problem why did they wait till half way in June? Why not fire him on the spot in February when the said 'absence' problem occurred.

Anyone who knows Adam knows what a hard worker he is. There is nothing he can't do. His being fired is definitely not normal and came as a COMPLETE shock to both of us. Wow.

So yesterday was a definitely difficult day (alliteration point!).We spent the majority of the day filling out unemployment sheets, and filing for tons of jobs. Luckily he has an interview tomorrow. So please help us and cross anything you can: eyes, fingers, legs, arms, toes, heart, hairs, stitch etc...

We spent most of the day in waves, sadness, frustration, disbelief, shock, anger, worry, panic... You name it. We felt it. I finally fell asleep around 3 a.m. The morning was better. Somber, but refreshing to have the worst behind us. I got ready as usual: shower, get dressed, etc. Normal. Got in my car and began to pull out of the driveway. Normal? Yes. Very normal.

Then I noticed the back door to the Blazer was wide open. Normal? Nope. Not normal. I looked around wondering if Ad had followed behind me and was getting something out of the car, but nope. No Ad. I put the car in park and walked up to the door. It looked clean. That was the problem. I recalled Saturday when Ad was working on the Blaze that it had a computer in the back. .... You guessed it.... Computer? Gone. Subwoofer? Gone. CD's? Gone. Adam's school bag with complete with books and calculator and homework? Gone. Gun loading supplies for Ad? Gone.

My refreshing day? Gone.

Oh well. I have come to terms with the fact that I absolutely, without a doubt, have the worst, most completely UN-lucky luck. Sigh.

Another day, another first.

The past few days have been a day of firsts.

Last week while driving on Highland Drive Ad & I saw a woman carrying nothing less than a gallon of milk on her head! Talk about serious balance! I consider myself lucky if I can get my beverages from the cart to the trunk safely, let alone balancing a gallon of leche atop my locks! WOW! Kudos for this mama.

The second 'first' was a Scouting Recognition Dinner I attended last evening... alone... which can be summed up in two words: awkward & painful. In an attempt to escape the horribly awkward table conversation, or lack there of, I went to the ladies room and atop my 'throne' was a Glade air freshener with FEATHERS attached to it! How, uh, charming?

At this moment I became grateful that 11 year old boys aren't interior designers. Oh... and let us not forget the tender message inscribed on the duct tape. I bet you all are dying for one of these bebes! Eh?

Naming Your Child 101.

Occasionally I think we all come across names that make one wonder "What were that poor child's parents thinking?!!!"

Well, here at the Scout Office, we come across more than our fair share of 'special' names. Some of our previous findings include: David Pettagrew Huffaker Fitz. ALL ONE NAME, and his brother, Skyler Pettagrew Huffaker Fitz. That my friends is a huge name for one person. Not to mention that it sounds like a character from a Dr. Seuss book. Some others are: Orangello, Dow Jones Jr. and the list could go on and on!

Well I think this name takes the cake for parental stupidity: La-a. Say it with me now La-a. Feel like your singing? Well, we had to call the parent of La-a, asking for a correct SS# and when we said that it was for "La-a", this parent FREAKED out! Saying "I don know whys ya'll can't pernouce 'er name. It spelt jus like it sound: Ladasha." SERIOUSLY! I kid you fellow blogger's not. This is as true as it gets! This woman actually believed that people would sound out the hyphen in her child's name! WOW! Wonders shall never cease to amaze!

Scout-O-Lame-A

What do 2 horribly off tune singing & dancing groups, along with a Abraham Lincoln impressionist AND a bagpipist all have in common? Well I'll tell ya! These were the 'highlights' of my weekend peeps! You see, I had to work on Friday and Saturday at the Scout-O-Rama and let me tell ya... I don't think my ears and eyes will soon recover from the pain and horror endured on Saturday between the hours of 6:30 am and 1:00 pm. Holy shmolly!

My day began bright and early checking in all the VIP's for the breakfast being held(not a bad way to start the day I might add, speaking with Kyle Whittingham, a few mayors, a District Attorney, and the LDS Primary and Young Men's presidencies). My count was for 64 people. ANd let me tell you, "people came that totally did NOT rsvp (<-- Clueless reference anyone?) and above all those people brought their spouses! I was freaking out! Anywho, we were able to work it out in the end, but come-on peeps! You've got to RSVP to these things! Once I checked in the peeps, it was off to organize the honored guest area, which sadly, was right next to the main stage. The person in charge of entertainment was some 50 yr. old idiot on rollerblades that wore strange hats (one was a top hat with the head of a flamingo coming out the top, legs coming down to the sides, and wings...). The only thing worse than a comedian that isn't funny, is one that thinks he is and isn't!

So this rollerblading finatic was in charge of booking main stage entertainment. I never thought that I'd actually wish for the "dazzle dogs" show from last year, but I suppose wonders never cease to exist. I'm not sure if these teenage performers were from a high school, or just a community song and dance group, but OH MY GOSH! I do NOT exaggerate when I say that not a SINGLE note was in tune! The term 'pitchy' so lovingly coined by AI is being kind I assure you! I had to 'man' the special guest area, but at times had to walk away as my laugh could not be silenced any longer. Sigh. I still can't decide if their singing was worse than their dancing however... I suppose I'll never know. Sigh.

I felt such relief when their final number was finished and they left the stage. I'm not sure why because on walked an Abraham Lincoln impersonater who recited portions of the Emmancipation Proclamation while inserting horribly rehearsed lines.

The best part was watching his long and awkward pauses when he'd lose track of where he was in his recitation! It was painful. Oh so painful. All I could say at this point was wow. And then he ended with a horrible and inappropriate joke about someone pulling a gun to his head. HELLO! You're impersonating Abe Lincoln! To all those "Office" fans out there, I couldn't stop laughing as I remembered the Benjamin Franklin impersonater that Jim hires for Phyllis's bachelorette party. HI-Larious!

Anywho. The day was redeemed. I was able to leave around 1 instead of 4 like originally planned, and spruced the house up for the evenings festivities. Dinner with friends + cupcakes for Paul's bday (and Marci's as hers is on Tuesday) + some late night games = FUN TIMES!

I hope that you all had a fabulous weekend.

Now. Any ideas of what to get 2 mother-in-laws for Mother's Day?

Ewwwwwwe!

True Story.

I'm sitting at work today, and Beverly Oouts, a sadly unfortunate and awkward seasonal worker is speaking to her daughter on the phone (we are part of a 4 part cubicle thing so I'm not trying to listen in, it is just unavoidable in close working conditions). Turns out, Beverly's family has had a case of Lice! YIKES!!! I have never been in contact with lice before, but just the thought has given me the heebiejeebies! She was giving her daughter instructions to get this 'spray' and spray everything down with it. Um. Spray? Aren't you suppossed to like strip down everything and wash it like crazy? Then she says, "Yah, thats what we've used in the past. It doesn't get them all though, there are always a few that don't die so we'll just get them next time." Whoa whoa WHOA! Next time?!!!" Who are these people! Shouldn't lice be a one time thing? Something normal people avoid like the plague? Who prepares for a 'next time!' *shudder*

I can't stop itching just thinking about it! Anywho, when I returned from lunch the following picture was on my desktop, courtesy of Sam, one of my fellow employees who was present!

Happy Monday!*shudder*
